  26.  The ScanTek scanner driver has the following features:
  27.  
  28.  1. Support of the following SCSI Microtek scanner models:
  29.         MICROTEK IISP, MICROTEK II, HIGHSCREEN Flatbed Color IIs,
  30.         ScanMaker E3, ScanMaker 35t, ScanMaker E6,
  31.         Highscreen PerfectScan, older Highscreen HighScan
  32.  
  33.         Microtek E3PLUS, V300, 330, 630 and new Highscreen HighScan
  34.  
  35.            This new scanner model can be used in black&white, grey scale
  36.            and color scanning.
  37.            The download of color lookup tables (gamma curves) is now
  38.            supported.
  39.            Color scan images can contain a shifted segment, if the image
  40.            data is written to a harddisk on the same SCSI host adapter.
  41.            The image data should be written to a harddisk on another SCSI
  42.            host adapter or to a IDE harddisk.
  43.  
  44.  
  45.     Support of the following SCSI Mustek Paragon scanner models:
  46.         Three Pass Scanners:
  47.         Paragon 6000CX, 8000CX (not tested), 12000CX all should work
  48.  
  49.         One or Single Pass Scanners:
  50.         Paragon 6000SP, 8000SP, 12000SP (now supported) all should work
  51.         Paragon 6000CZ, 8000CZ (not tested)
  52.  
  53.         Paragon 600IISP, 800IISP
  54.  
  55.  
  56.     The following scanner models are in the development phase:
  57.         Microtek ScanMaker 636, 336 and x6           
  58.           Scanned images of this models may contain strong color failures.
  59.           After the reception of the new Microtek programming documentation
  60.           this filaure can be resolved. A fast solution is possible.
  61.  
  62.  
  63.     The following scanner models are recognized but not fully supported: 
  64.         Mustek ScanExpress 12000SP
  65.         Mustek Paragon 1200IIISP (caution: III -> version 3)
  66.            Color scanning is only successfull at resolutions of 150, 300,
  67.            600 and 1200 dpi.
  68.            Grey scale scanning is possible.
  69.            If the image to be scanned exceeds the scan buffer size than
  70.            the image is corrupt. This effect is independent from the
  71.            scan mode.
  72.            The scanning quality is also (!) dependent from the used
  73.            SCSI host adapter.
  74.            The ScanExpress or Paragon 12000IIISP scanner models are
  75.            not recommended for ScanTek.
  76.            At least until sometimes in the future the corresponding
  77.            Mustek SCSI programming documentation for these new models
  78.            is available. I think this might be a Millenium projekt.
  79.  
  80.  
  81.     The following scanner models are not supported by now: 
  82.         All remaining Mustek ScanExpress and Paragon IIISP models.
  83.  
  84.  
  85.     The following scanner models are not supported:
  86.         Canon, Epson, HP, Umax and any parallelport scanner.
  87.  
  88.  
  89.     Attention: In recent times Mustek has changed the scanner firmware.
  90.                I urge you to test Mustek scanners with your Amiga
  91.                configuration before buying it.
  92.  
  93.                Mustek scanners have a critical SCSI interface. It
  94.                was reported to me that these scanners may not work
  95.                with the A2091 and A3000(T) internal SCSI interface.
  96.                It is possible that these scanners do not work with
  97.                other SCSI host adapters, either.
  98.                But the Mustek 6000CX and Paragon MFS-12000SP work in
  99.                combination with an Oktagon SCSI host adapter.
  100.                Be sure to disable reselection for Mustek scanners
  101.                on your SCSI host adapter. Otherwise your system may
  102.                not boot.
  103.  
  104.  2. Support of black/white, built-in halftone (dither), one-pass-color-scan,
  105.     three pass color scan, grey, red, green and blue scan.
  106.  
  107.  3. Individual setting of resolution, scanning frame, contrast, shadow,
  108.     midtone, highlight, exposure time and scanning speed for download to the
  109.     scanner.
  110.  
  111.  4. Download of a color look up table (gamma correction table ) to the scanner
  112.     supported.
  113.  
  114.  5. Scanning to IFF File of 1, 8 or 24 bit color depth. The maximum size of
  115.     the scanned image is independent from the RAM size. After the scanning
  116.     process it is possible to start an external program.
  117.  
  118.  6. GUI for preview and configuration of the driver. You need Kickstart 2.04
  119.     but Kickstart 3.0 is recommended.
  120.  
  121.  7. Sizeable preview window in black/white or grey scale. Color preview
  122.     on Cybergraphix screens (15, 16 or 24 bit necessary).
  123.     There are much more skilled programs to view and manipulate the scanned
  124.     images in color. (A tool like ADPRO, IMAGE FX or so is needed, if you
  125.     want to do sophisticated postproduction)
  126.  
  127.  8. ARexx support
  128.  
  129.  9. Screenmode requester to define custom screen for working. The actual public
  130.     screen is supported as well
  131.  
  132.  10. Configurable SCSI device and SCSI ID. The driver supports only SCSI
  133.      connectable scanners.
  134.  
  135.  11. The driver is tested with the following SCSI drivers: oktagon.device and
  136.      gvpscsi.device V4.5.
  137.  
  138.  12. ScanTek is written using SAS C 6.58.
  139.  
  140.  13. ScanTek is SHAREWARE.
  141.  
  142.  14. The non registered version of ScanTek is a full working version, but all
  143.      scanned images have black lines to motivate you to register.
  144.      Additionally the maximum size of the preview is restricted.

  147.  Übersicht
  148. -----------
  149.  
  150.  ScanTek bietet die folgenden Merkmale:
  151.  
  152.  1. Unterstützung der folgenden SCSI Microtek Scanner Modelle:
  153.         MICROTEK IISP, MICROTEK II, HIGHSCREEN Flatbed Color IIs,
  154.         ScanMaker E3, ScanMaker 35t, ScanMaker E6,
  155.         Highscreen PerfectScan, alter Highscreen HighScan
  156.  
  157.         Microtek E3PLUS, v300, 330, 630 und neue Highscreen HighScan
  158.            Diese Scanner werden mit Schwarz/Weiß, Graustufen und Farbscannen
  159.            unterstützt.
  160.            Die Farbkorrekturtabellen (Color LookUp Table) werden nun auch
  161.            unterstützt.
  162.            Beim Scannen von Farbbilder mit diesen Scannermodellen kann es
  163.            zu einer horizontalen Verschiebung des Bildinhaltes um einige
  164.            Pixel kommen. Dieses SCSI Fehlverhalten tritt nur auf, wenn
  165.            die Bilddaten auf eine SCSI Festplatte geschrieben werden, die
  166.            am selben SCSI Host Adapter angeschlossen ist, wie der Scanner.
  167.            Bei einer IDE Festplatte tritt dieses Fehlverhalten nicht auf.
  168.  
  169.     Unterstützung der folgenden SCSI Mustek Paragon Scanner Modelle:
  170.         Three Pass Scanner:
  171.         Paragon 6000CX, 8000CX (ungeprüft), 12000CX alle sollten funktionieren
  172.  
  173.         One or Single Pass Scanners:
  174.         Paragon 6000SP, 8000SP, 12000SP (nun unterstützt)
  175.         Paragon 6000CZ, 8000CZ (ungeprüft)
  176.  
  177.         Paragon 600IISP, 800IISP
  178.  
  179.     Die folgenden neuen Modelle befinden sich in der Testphase:
  180.         Microtek ScanMaker 636, 336 und x6
  181.            Die gescannten Bilder können starke Farbverfälschungen beinhalten.
  182.            Dieses Problem kann nach Eintreffen der neuen Microtek
  183.            Programmierdokumentation bearbeitet werden. Die Aussichten einer
  184.            baldigen Lösung sind sehr gut.
  185.  
  186.            
  187.     Die folgenden (neuen) Modelle sind nur unzureichend unterstützt:
  188.         Mustek ScanExpress 12000SP
  189.         Mustek Paragon 1200IIISP (Vorsicht: III -> version 3)
  190.            Farbscannen ist nun möglich, aber nur bei den Auflösungen
  191.            150, 300, 600 und 1200 dpi erfolgreich.
  192.            Graustufen sind möglich.
  193.            Übersteigt die Größe des zu scannenden Bildes die Größe des
  194.            Scanpuffers, dann ist das Bild fehlerbehaftet und unbrauchbar.
  195.            Dieser Effekt tritt unabhängig vom eingestellten Scan Modus auf.
  196.            Die Scanqualität ist auch (!) abhängig vom verwendeten SCSI
  197.            Host Adapter.
  198.  
  199.            Die ScanExpress Scannermodelle sind nicht empfehlenswert für die
  200.            Benutzung mit ScanTek.
  201.            Dies kann sich ändern, wenn die Mustek SCSI Programmierunterlagen
  202.            irgentwann in ferner Zukunft verfügbar sind. Ob das noch
  203.            innerhalb diese Jahrhunderts geschieht ist abzuwarten.
  204.  
  205.  
  206.     Die folgenden (neuen) Modelle sind bisher nicht unterstützt:
  207.         Alle anderen Modelle der Mustek ScanExpress Serie
  208.  
  209.     Diese Scanner werden nicht unterstützt:
  210.         Canon, Epson, HP, UMAX und Parallelportscanner
  211.  
  212.     Sollten auch nicht aufgeführte Scanner mit ScanTek zusammen-
  213.     arbeiten, dann wäre eine Mitteilung darüber sehr nett. 
  214.  
  215.     Achtung:   Ich rate jedem einen Test des ins Auge gefassten Scanners an
  216.                seiner Amiga Konfiguration durchzuführen und eventuell ein
  217.                Umtauschrecht mit dem Händler zu vereinbaren.
  218.                Scanner sind bei weitem nicht so standardisiert, wie z.B.
  219.                Festplatten. Das führt bei verschiedenen Kombinationen zwischen
  220.                SCSI Host Adaptern und bestimmten Scannermodellen zu einer
  221.                hardwaremässigen Unverträglichkeit.
  222.  
  223.                Ein Warnung bezüglich Mustek Scannern.
  224.                Mustek tendiert dazu bei neuen Scannermodellen, die Firmware und
  225.                damit die Schnittstelle zu ScanTek zu ändern. Das kann zur Folge
  226.                haben, daß manche neueren Scannermodelle nicht mehr ScanTek
  227.                zusammenarbeiten. Diese Situation ist gerade wieder aktuell, da
  228.                Mustek die neue ScanExpress Serie auf den Markt gebracht hat.
  229.                An einer Anpassung von ScanTek wird gerade gearbeitet.
  230.  
  231.                Mustek Scanner weisen ein kritisches (incompatibles) Verhalten
  232.                am SCSI Bus auf. Es wurde mir berichtet, daß Mustek Scanner nicht
  233.                mit den folgenden SCSI Host Adaptern zusammenarbeiten.
  234.                Unverträglich sind der A2091 und der A3000(T) interne SCSI Host
  235.                Adapter.
  236.                Es ist darum möglich, daß die Mustek Scanner auch mit anderen
  237.                SCSI Host Adaptern nicht zusammenarbeiten.
  238.                Aus eigener Erfahrung kann ich jedoch sagen, daß ein Mustek
  239.                6000CX und ein Paragon MFS-12000SP mit einem Oktagon SCSI Host
  240.                Adapter zusammenarbeiten.
  241.                Eventuell muß das SCSI Host Adapter Merkmal "Reselection"
  242.                deaktiviert werden. Ansonst kann es geschehen, daß der Computer
  243.                nicht hochläuft.
  244.  
  245.  2. Unterstützung von Schwarz-Weiß, eingebautem Halftone (Dithering), Farb,
  246.     Grau, Rot, Grün und Blau Scanmodus.
  247.     Dabei kann es Scannermodell bedingt zu Abweichungen kommen.
  248.  
  249.  3. Individuelle Einstellbarkeit der Auflösung, des Scanrahmens, des Kontrasts,
  250.     der Dunkel- Mitten und Helltöne. Desweiteren kann die Scangeschwindigkeit
  251.     und die "Belichtung" eingestellt werden. Die aufgeführten Werte werden nicht
  252.     von allen Scannermodellen unterstützt.
  253.  
  254.  4. Farbkorrekturtabellen (Color Look Up Tables) können erstellt und auf den
  255.     Scanner geladen werden.
  256.  
  257.  5. Das gescannte Bild wird in eine IFF Datei mit 1, 8 oder 24 bit Farbtiefe
  258.     gespeichert. Die maximale Größe eines gescannten Bildes ist unabhängig vom
  259.     verfügbaren Hauptspeicher (RAM) des Computers.
  260.     Nach dem Scanprozeß kann ein externes Programm automatisch gestartet werden.
  261.  
  262.  6. Mit der intuitiven GUI (Graphische Benutzer Schnittstelle) Bedienung ist es
  263.     einfach ScanTek zu konfigurieren und zu benutzen.
  264.     Es ist hierfür Kickstart 2.04 oder besser noch Kickstart 3.0 erforderlich.
  265.  
  266.  7. Die Auswahl des gewünschten Scaninhalts erfolgt in einem Vorschaufenster.
  267.     Die Scanvorschau ist normalerweise in Schwarz/Weiß oder in Graustufen
  268.     gehalten.
  269.     Die Farbvorschau ist nur auf einem Cybergraphixscreen mit 15, 16 oder 24 bit
  270.     Farbtiefe möglich.
  271.     Zur Nachbearbeitung (die immer notwendig ist) empfiehlt sich ein Werkzeug
  272.     wie ImageFX, ArtEffect, AdPro oder eins der vielen guten Sharewarebild-
  273.     bearbeitungsprogramme.
  274.  
  275.  8. ARexx Unterstützung
  276.  
  277.  9. Unterstützung eines Bildschirmauswahlfensters zur Auswahl einer beliebigen
  278.     Bildschirmauflösung. Es ist ebenfalls moöglich ScanTek auf dem aktuellen
  279.     PublicScreen zu öffnen.
  280.  
  281.  10. Einstellbares SCSI device und SCSI ID.
  282.      ScanTek unterstützt nur Scannermodelle, die über die SCSI Schnittstelle
  283.      betrieben werden.
  284.  
  285.  11. ScanTek wurde mit Hilfe des SAS C 6.58 entwickelt.

  287.  12. ScanTek ist SHAREWARE.
  288.  
  289.  13. Die unregistrierte Version von ScanTek ist eine annähernd vollständige
  290.      Version. Sie unterscheidet sich von der registrierten Version nur in den
  291.      folgenden Punkten:
  292.      1. Das gescannte Bild ist mit schwarzen Streifen durchzogen ist.
  293.      2. Das Vorschaubild ist in der maximalen Größe beschränkt.
